Since we first articulated the Zebra ethos, founders and investors alike have been asking us to create a Zebras Unite Fund.
We believe, however, that we can create better and more financing mechanisms for mobilizing the capital that founders of all different stripes need by working together with stakeholders large and small, public and private, on both the demand and supply side of capital markets, in all the parts of the world, sectors and demographics where there are Zebra founders and investors.
Zebras Unite Capital is a circle of co-op members who are working together to create the distributed, democratic networks and infrastructure for raising and deploying debt, equity and blended capital to Zebra companies at varying stages of their evolution. We work in partnership with our growing global chapter network.
We are focusing on three main areas of work:
Incubating next generation capital and entrepreneur support ecosystems. Our flagship initiative here is the Inclusive Capital Collective, a growing network of independent loan, equity and real estate funds and entrepreneur support organizations in the US, all of whom are working to overcome systemic racism through equitable access to capital.
The ICC is slated to become an independent co-operative financial institution in 2023.
Building a rich referral ecosystem to connect Zebras Unite Co-op members and investors with each other, working in partnership with platforms like Wefunder, Lend for Good, Tiny, and others, and with a growing network of investors with over $2.8B in assets under management.
Developing new financial products and vehicles. We are working on a number of innovative financing mechanisms, both in the context of a growing number of capital collectives, and in partnership with Co-op members and other partners who are building innovative new funds.
In late 2022 / early 2023 we are launching a suite of capital products are the result of inclusive, participatory design processes that Zebra Unite Capital has developed, and that are responsive to the founder and investor needs in a given sector, geography and / or demographic.
